49. parable of the good samaritan
/ luke 10:25-37 /

One day, Jesus told a story about a man who was taking a long journey 🧳 from the city 🌆 of Jerusalem to a place called Jericho. The road was winding and rocky, 🪨 and the man had to walk all by himself. Sadly, some bad people 😡 jumped out from behind the rocks. They took all his belongings - his money, 💰 his clothes, 👔 and even his food. 🍲 They hurt him and left him lying on the side of the road. 🩸
Soon, a priest came walking down the same road. He saw 👀 the hurt man, but instead of helping, he walked way over on the other side of the road and kept going! 🤦♂️ Then another important church helper called a Levite came by. He also saw 👁️ the poor hurt man, but he too crossed to the other side and hurried away. 🙈
Finally, a third person came along. He was called a Samaritan. Now, in those days, Samaritans and Jewish people (like the hurt man) usually didn't get along at all 🙅♂️ - they weren't supposed to be friends. But this Samaritan had a very kind heart. ❤️ When he saw the hurt 😔 man, he felt very sad 😢 and wanted to help right away.
The Samaritan knelt down beside the hurt man 👨🏻 and very gently cleaned his scrapes and bruises with soft oil and bandages. 🩹 He even shared his water 💦 with the thirsty man. Then, the Samaritan helped the man climb onto his very own donkey, 🫏 so the hurt man wouldn't have to walk.
The Samaritan took the man to a nearby inn 🏨 where he could rest in a soft bed. 🛌 He stayed with the hurt man all night to make sure he was okay. The next morning, the Samaritan had to continue his journey, but he did something extra special: he gave the innkeeper money 💵 and said, "Please take good care of this man. If he needs anything else, I'll pay you back when I return."
Jesus finished the story by asking, "Who was the true neighbor to the hurt man?" 🙋♂️🙋♀️ The answer was clear - it was the Samaritan who showed love 🫶 and kindness. Jesus told everyone to "Go and do the same thing" - to be kind and helpful to everyone we meet, even if they're different from us.
